Professional Services

Our Professional Services operate under the overall leadership of the DVC (Strategy and Operations). They play a key role in delivering our mission to transform lives, providing both leadership and support across a wide range of areas. We implemented an innovative new operating model for professional services between 2017 and 2019, focused on taking a user-centric and one-university approach to how we work. During this time, we simplified and re-aligned our services to enable more effective resource management, responsiveness to change and to support stronger career paths for professional service colleagues. The reorganisation placed Sheffield Hallam in a strong position at the start of the Covid crisis and highly collaborative and agile multi-professional working has characterised our response throughout the last 2-3 years.

Working alongside our academic operation to realise our vision of becoming the world’s leading applied university we have four large business delivery groups:

  • Recruitment, Marketing and Communications
Students with a strong sense of belonging from the Sheffield Hallam experience, who are supported to engage, thrive and collaborate, helping them to succeed. We will reimagine and re-build our community and recover student engagement following the pandemic.
  • Student and Academic Services
  • Infrastructure and Change
  • Business Engagement, Skills and Employability

Alongside these teams, we have four smaller Directorates, comprising:

  • Research and Innovation Services
  • Global Development and Partnerships
  • Academic Development and Diversity
  • Student Experience, Teaching and Learning

Underpinning the whole University, we have our corporate and strategic services that ensure that we have the strategy, planning and resources needed to deliver our vision and support our key student-facing services. These are:

  • Governance, Legal and Sector Regulation
  • Strategy, Planning and Insight
  • Finance and Procurement
  • Human Resources and Organisational Development
  • Place and Civic Engagement
