Description
Sheffield Hallam University is one of the UK’s largest and most diverse universities: a community of more than 30,000 students, 4,000 staff and more than 280,000 alumni around the globe. Our mission is simple: we transform lives. Our vision is to be the world's leading applied university; showing what a university genuinely focused on transforming lives can achieve.
After a very successful tenure, our Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Chris Husbands has decided the time is right to step down. Under his leadership over the past seven years, the University has been re-shaped, and its impact has been transformed. Shortlisted this year for the Times Higher Education (THE) University of the Year, in the last three years we have been university of the year in the UK Social Mobility Awards and the Educate North awards, the Good University Guide’s university of the year for teaching quality, as well as receiving THE’s awards for entrepreneurial university of the year and for the outstanding contribution to the local community. The University leads thinking on higher education policy, civic engagement, widening participation and the role of universities as drivers of success in their communities.
We are now looking for a successor who is going to continue to shape and deliver our strategy and vision, leading our vibrant community of staff and students.
Our new Vice-Chancellor will be an enabling and visionary leader, guiding the University through a time of growth and change as we continue to evolve to support our students and communities. The year ahead will bring major challenges and opportunities for the higher education in the context of economic turmoil and inflation, fraught international and geopolitical outlook, the next UK election and university funding. You will position Hallam as an exemplar on a local and national stage, leading the way for applied universities globally. You will grow and expand our academic offer while remaining a driving force in the civic life of our university communities.
As our next Vice-Chancellor you will provide inspirational leadership for the University, ensuring Hallam’s mission of transforming lives. You will be compelling with our external stakeholders, a visible presence, representing the Hallam community and ensuring our voice, and the voice of civic universities, are heard across the UK and internationally. You will lead on the relationship with our long-standing international partnership with La Trobe University in Australia. You will also oversee the delivery of our campus based in Northwest London. Part of the £8bn Brent Cross Town redevelopment we will continue with our commitment to providing exciting opportunities for Hallam’s wider student community in and around London.
If you care about the power of higher education to transform lives and shape communities, there is not a more rewarding, engaging or inspiring role than leading Sheffield Hallam University to its next achievements.
